Cultural Diverse

The cultural diversity in my neighborhood is very limited. Groups that share social characteristics have common cultural standards. My neighborhood is very ethnocentric; they judge others in terms of their own cultural standards. They can’t imagine others living any other way and don’t understand their beliefs compared to their own. The values and belief that’s they feel are superior to the values and belief of someone with different preferences. If other cultures moved into a neighborhood with high ethnocentrism they would need to have a lot of cultural universal traits to live together. There are different people that stay around my neighborhood every day that speak differently from my family and act a different way or even eat different. There’s nothing wrong with having different people in your neighborhood maybe we can learn how they culture is.

  1. Margie,
Avoid pasting definitions in to your paper, such as “Groups that share social characteristics have common cultural standards.” Instead, mold the definition to meet your topic, like: ‘Everyone in my neighborhood shares the same cultural standards and characteristics.”
You are not clear on whether there are or are not cultural differences in your neighborhood. A couple of your sentences contradict each other.
You used the term Cultural Universals incorrectly. The term does sound like it means that everyone does things the same way, but it does not. It means that everyone does those things, but they do them in different ways.
I like your conclusion that it is good to have people different cultures in your neighborhood.
